NYFW Day 1
Hello hello everyone! It has been far too long since I wrote an actual post. Obviously the last few months have been a whirlwind transition. I moved from Seattle to Colorado for two months, and finally to NYC nearly a full month ago! I can’t believe I’ve only been in the city for a few weeks and have already gotten to experience so much and meet so many incredible people. For the last year I spent a lot of time trying to grow my blog and presence in the fashion industry, and the hard work payed off when I got the chance to attend my first ever NYFW. I wanted to take readers/Instagram followers along on the journey with me since it was such a fun experience— and you are some of the many people who helped me get here! I’m going to be sharing each day on my blog as time permits with a little recap of everything that went down. :) Would love to hear any feedback or questions! <3
DAY 1:
Day 1 of fashion week was so incredible. Since I’m at school at FIT, I sadly had to miss a few shows due to class (and missed the chance to meet Paris Hilton…still not okay—but Retail Math isn’t going to learn itself). However, I got to kick off the week on Friday! Following class, I booked it to Industria where a lot of shows were being held. The first show of my day was Fashion Palette’s group show featuring many Australian brands. My favorite brand in the show was Saski Collection, a super fun athletic line. The pieces were wearable and cool, and the models looked so fierce in everything. I also loved the brands Elliat and Daniel Alexander. Every designer was incredibly talented!
Following show 1 I had a gap of time until the next show at Industria. Luckily there was plenty of people-watching and street-style scouting to keep me occupied! Afffair was up next- the pieces were incredible! The show was really quick but gorgeous full of lots of shimmer and fitted silhouettes.
Immediately after the show and a much needed shoe-change from heeled boots to loafers, it was time for the Lulu’s party! I had heard so many good things about how epic this event was, and it did not disappoint. From prosecco to frose to a NYX cosmetics booth and Amika dry shampoo goodies, Lulu’s truly set an amazing scene. They even provided a full pop-up boutique full of gorgeous dresses and accessories!
I loved getting a chance to meet freelance artists and a few members of the Lulu’s marketing team throughout the night. I also bumped into some of my favorite bloggers who inspire me to keep going- @DaniAustin, @candidlychan, and @kathleen.post! They were all so sweet and genuine in person. The night ended with a quick trip to Shake Shack, because a girl needs her French Fries.
What I Wore:
For my first day of fashion week I wanted to start out with a pop of color! I wanted to push myself slightly out of my comfort zone while still maintaining my own personal style. I think it’s very important to stay true to who you are during fashion week even though seeing people wear really over-the-top outfits can cause major envy. Even if you are intimidated by the style of the other guests, bloggers, and industry attendees; odds are everyone is going to think your sense of style is beyond cool and unique!
I found this amazing dress from & Other Stories (my current favorite brand ever) and since purple is so on trend this season I knew it was the perfect piece! I also love the length and side slit. The purple sunnies from Free People made a fun addition for a more monochromatic look. My boots from Sol Sana added a subtle shimmer with a touch of gold velvet socks peeking out. Lastly, having a chic bag is one of the key parts of fashion week- this belt bag from Zara was an inexpensive and on-trend way to finish off the look and keep me hands-free for the shows.
Thanks for reading and supporting me in my blogging dreams! Sharing more details on the week soon. :)
