How to Style: Business Casual

Business casual: one of the scariest phrases in fashion. If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent years cringing upon seeing these words on any dress code, haunted by the fear of being over or under dressed. Working in fashion makes the business casual suggestion even trickier: the outfit not only requires the perfect blend of dressy and low-key, it also needs to be right on trend.

Being petite has always made workwear challenging for me as well- dress pants are often too long, blazers end up swallowing me, and flowy button-down blouses leave me looking extra tiny. I’ve finally found my go-to brands for work looks for petite girls: Express (with short lengths for pants), Loft (a whole collection of petite sizing), and Zara (a generally smaller fit).

Working a fashion internship the last few months left me with no choice but to step up my business-causal game and figure out how to express a sense of style simultaneously. This outfit is one I wore to work- luckily for me my office was fairly casual on days there weren’t any special events going on, so I had a lot of room to play around with different looks.

I think the key to dressing up any outfit is a blazer and chic earrings. This basic blazer from Zara has bene a life saver- it has the perfect tailored fit and keeps the outfit looking feminine, but the slight shoulder pad makes it trendy and classic.

Express has the best basic cami’s and I loved the metallic touch to this one. I love spicing up a business-y look with a pop of color or shine. Distressed denim from Free People kept me comfortable on the job and allowed me to express my style in the office. I topped off the look with the most fun boots by Jeffrey Campbell that were a major hit at work. Hope this post gave some inspo for your own business casual look this week!! How do you express yourself in the office? xx
